Jet CentreThe Jet Centre

LONDON City Airport is proving popular with corporate operators who enjoy the speed and efficiency of an Airport so close to the city centre.  Between  1995 and 2001 there was a 252% increase in corporate aviation and in August that year the Airport announced it was to build a dedicated facility for this traffic.

This Jet Centre was completed in mid 2002. It has since been upgraded twice. The latest extension and reordering of the space was completed in the summer of 2008. This extension has stream-lined passenger flow through the jet centre, offering separate arrivals/departure lounges and dedicated operator/customer areas.  The Centre provides a complete corporate aviation package including VIP lounges, a dedicated VIP stand, parking for at least 20 aircraft and immigration, customs and crew facilities.  The Airport itself operates the centre with a fully trained staff on hand to provide flight planning, weather briefings and landing clearances. They also organise slot requests, ground handling arrangements, flight watch, cleaning, catering, line maintenance, refuelling, baggage and aircraft handling.

The Jet Centre, the only fixed base operation (FBO) actually in London,  is a key attraction to the users of corporate aircraft being only six miles from the heart of London with easy access to the City and Canary Wharf .  And the surrounding road network allows users to reach the A406 and M11 within 10 minutes.  The facility thus offers speed and convenience - two keys factors for the business traveller today. 

The growth in corporate aviation has been fuelled by new schemes such as fractional ownership, virtual airlines, corporate shuttle and many more innovative approaches, all of which are aimed at meeting increased customer demand as businesses recognise the benefits flowing from corporate aviation and how it can help them to improve their performance.

Fractional ownership aircraft, where businesses buy a percentage of an aircraft, represented in flight hours, drastically reduce the cost of private air travel and now account for approximately 55% of the Jet Centre's business.

Total corporate movements at London City in 2007 came to 13,669 - this compares with 13,076 in 2006 and 9,674 in 2005.

In June 2006, The Jet Centre was awarded the contract to provide a Premier Passenger Service at RAF Northolt. Adding Northolt Jet Centre PPS allows London City Airport to enhance its London operation and tailor it's corporate passenger handling.  Passengers travelling to the West End from Northolt will enjoy the location benefits that passengers currently enjoy travelling via the London City Airport Jet Centre to central London.

For a full list of approved types see our Aircraft Page.  They include a number of corporate types including the Beechcraft 200/900, 350 & C90, a number of variants of  the Cessna Citation, Bombardier Learjet 40/45/45XR, the Dassault Falcon DA10/50/900, the Embraer Legacy, the Hawker 400SP/HS800XP/800.  To ensure maximum use of London City , the airport maintains an involvement with manufacturers and operators so that current aircraft with the necessary performance capabilities are cleared for operations and that future models take account of its steep approach requirements

Charter Services

PrivateJet, London City Airport 's worldwide executive jet charter brokering service, celebrated its first birthday on in April 2007and predicts growth of 100% for their second year of operation.

PrivateJet is confident of their growth target for year two, which is being fuelled by the business community, increasingly recognising the value of using private jets. Currently PrivateJet are seeing the business aviation segment of the market growing faster than any other in air transport. The majority of PrivateJet's demand is for European travel.  Europe is a rapidly expanding market and, while America is expected to remain the largest market for business jets, deliveries of private jets into Europe are now exceeding America

PrivateJet attends to all customer needs, from initial quotation through to the VIP catering that may be required on board. In short, every detail is looked after to ensure that travel is effective, flexible and enjoyable wherever it may be in the world.

Also based at the Centre, with their own lounges and other facilities, is London Executive Aviation and Netjets
